Smooth - coated otters
Sighted on: 12.January.2026

This morning, our guests were fortunate to spot otters during their birdwatching session. Kabini is one of the finest places in South India to witness Smooth-coated Otters, often seen in lively family groups along the riverbanks and backwaters. Their playful behaviour—sliding into the water, grooming one another, and swimming in synchrony—brings animation to Kabini’s otherwise calm waters. As apex predators within the aquatic ecosystem, otters are a strong indicator of the health and richness of the riverine habitat.

Indian Spotted Eagle
Sighted on: 15.January.2026

The Indian Spotted Eagle was the highlight of the morning. A rare and much sought-after raptor in Kabini, it is closely associated with wetlands and open forest patches. Often observed soaring low over marshes or perched quietly near water bodies, this elusive eagle blends seamlessly into its surroundings. Its presence underscores Kabini’s importance as a refuge for threatened raptors that depend on intact wetland ecosystems.
