Plastic Pollution

Plastic pollution is one of many environmental issues of our time, and one of the most disturbing consequences of plastic pollution is the ingestion of plastic by wildlife. During the boat safari this morning, our guests witnessed a herd of Sambar feeding on plastic waste washed ashore by the Kabini River. This is hardly surprising as many human settlements are located upriver and outside the national park. People living there carelessly throw plastic waste into the river, not realising the harm they cause. A small act of negligence in one area can have devastating impacts on places far removed. It just goes to show that safeguarding our protected areas is not enough, and conservation needs to extend beyond their boundaries.
