December 2023 - Week 4 Roundup

Great Egret

Sighted on: 24.December.2023

Winter has truly arrived in Kabini, and the temperatures are at their lowest. The low temperatures, especially during the morning safaris, affect wildlife's movement as both birds and mammals are not very active in the cold. We spotted this Great Egret looking all fluffed up as it had opened all its feathers to protect it from the cold. This was something that I had never seen before. It was a great subject to photograph, and our guests were able to make some very creative images.

Leopard

Sighted on: 26.December.2023

A leopardess was spotted moving around in the undergrowth. However, our guests got a reasonably clear view as the undergrowth was not too dense. Leopards are notoriously elusive, and our guests were delighted to have been able to sight one.

Tigress

Sighted on: 27.December.2023

A massive tigress was seen resting on the bund of a waterhole, offering our guests a clear view. This was special as one does not always get a clear view during a tiger sighting. This particular tigress is the mother of two cubs, and she was constantly calling the cubs to join her at the waterhole. Unfortunately for us, the cubs refused to join her, and after waiting for almost an hour, we were left with no other option but to drive away.

Tiger

Sighted on: 28.December.2023

Our guests were lucky to spot a tiger resting in the bushes. They managed to get a clear view, but unfortunately, the tiger quickly got up and left. It was a short but thrilling sighting.
