Oriental Honey Buzzard
Sighted on: 27.January.2026

During our Birding by Boat experience at Kabini, we were treated to a rare and memorable sighting. A juvenile Oriental Honey Buzzard was observed descending to the edge of the backwaters to drink—an unusual behaviour for a raptor more commonly seen perched high in the canopy or soaring overhead.
The bird lingered briefly, alert yet unhurried, offering clear views as it quenched its thirst before lifting off gracefully. Such moments are seldom witnessed and highlight not only the adaptability of this species but also the quiet richness of Kabini’s riverine habitats.
Kabini continues to surprise, revealing intimate glimpses of wildlife behaviour that remind us why its waters and forests remain so rewarding for keen observers.
