Tiger with cubs

Sighted on: 8.June.2023

It is always challenging to see tiger cubs in the forests of southern India, and such sightings feature on the bucket list of most guests. On this beautiful day of 8th June, I was guiding seven guests when we stopped to observe an elephant, when suddenly a tigress showed up for about two seconds before disappearing into the undergrowth. A while later, she emerged with her cubs. It was a dream come true for the guests and me as I could photograph this particular tigress with her cubs for the first time.

A herd of elephants were seen indulging in a mud bath. These large herds will start moving away from the Kabini area once the monsoon rains arrive.

Kabini was once known for excellent sightings of leopards - an otherwise elusive animal. However, as the Tiger population increased, the sightings of leopards decreased. A few bold leopards remain unfazed by the changed circumstances and can be seen regularly; one such individual was spotted during an afternoon drive.
