Indian Cuckoo
Sighted on: 22.May.2024
During the evening safari, our guests were lucky to get a clear sighting of a bird that is more often heard than seen - the Indian Cuckoo. The Indian Cuckoo has a unique far-carrying song with four hooting notes that sound very similar to "one -more-bottle" or "crossword-puh-zuhl". A sleek and slender grey and white bird, the adult is similar in size and colouration to the Oriental, Himalayan, and Common Cuckoos but with dark eyes and darker back and wings. The juvenile is patchy-looking, often showing a whitish crown and collar and white edging to the wing feathers.
